Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum Celebrates New Exhibit, Outlaws & Armadillos: Country’s Roaring ’70s with Concert and Two Weekends of Programs

The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum will unveil Outlaws & Armadillos: Country’s Roaring ’70s, a major exhibition of more than 5,000 square feet, on Friday, May 25, 2018. The exhibition will run through Feb. 14, 2021.

Exploring an era of cultural and artistic exchange between Nashville, Tenn., and Austin, Texas, Outlaws & Armadillos will feature film content, including exclusive interviews and concert footage, by Austin-based filmmaker and exhibit co-curator, Eric Geadelmann, The exhibit opening will be highlighted by a special concert opening day as well as two weekends packed with programing.

Friday, May, 25 at 8 pm the museum will host a concert showcasing songs and artists highlighted in the exhibition. Dave Cobb and Shooter Jennings will co-produce the show featuring special performances by Bobby Bare, Jason Boland, Jessi Colter, Joe Ely, Jack Ingram, Jason Isbell, Jamey Johnson, Ashley Monroe, Michael Martin Murphey, Gary P. Nunn, Willis Alan Ramsey, Kimmie Rhodes, Billy Joe Shaver, Amanda Shires and Colter Wall. Tickets are $40.95 and include museum admission. The concert will be recorded for future broadcast on SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country channel, along with additional content recorded in conjunction with the exhibit. Tickets will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. CDT on Friday, April 6, and can be purchased here.

Other exhibit opening programs include a panel discussion with filmmakers, Eric Geadelmann and Kelly Magelky as well as Jack Ingram about the upcoming documentary series, They Called Us Outlaws on Friday, May 25. The Armadillo World Headquarters and its impact on the Austin music scene will be examined in a panel discussion with Eddie Wilson, Mike Tolleson, Jim Franklin and Gary P. Nunn on Saturday, May 26. Kyle Lehning, Marshall Chapman and Kinky Freidman will participate in a panel discussing Tompall Glaser and Hillbilly Central on Saturday, June 2.

Outlaws & Armadillos will be accompanied by educational programs, including live performances, panel discussions and films throughout its run. The schedule will be updated regularly at countrymusichalloffame.org/outlaws. All programs are included with museum admission and free to museum members except as noted. Seating is general admission. An exhibit companion 2-CD set, Outlaws & Armadillos: Country’s Roaring ‘70s will be released in partnership with Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, on May 18 in Digital and CD, formats. 12″ vinyl of the set will be available at a later date this summer.
