BRAND SPANKING NEW TITLES FROM JANIS JOPLIN,
BOB DYLAN, SOUNDGARDEN, NIRVANA, KINGS OF LEON,
THE BLACK KEYS, JIMMY CLIFF, JOHN CALE, IRON & WINE,
AND MORE!

Wilco, whose current album, The Whole Love is getting its fair share of accolades from the press, has gone even one better for fans of the band, and for fans of independent music stores. Expect a vinyl gem, Speak Into The Rose, to be released exclusively for Record Store Day’s celebration of Black Friday, November 25th. The 4 track 10" vinyl, which features alternative versions of "Art Of Almost," "I Might Demo," "Speak Into The Rose," and "Message From Mid-Bar", two of which are unreleased, is a perfect addendum to the band’s aforementioned eighth full-length release. Why? Well, the band’s Jeff Tweedy says it best: "My introduction to all this great music and to ‘the music business’ came from hanging around, and eventually, working at independent record stores. Nothing beats browsing in your favorite store, listening to music, finding something new or old that you’ve been searching for, all that. And without these stores, there’s just no way Wilco would still be around."

Sony Legacy offers up two incredible titles from the legendary Janis Joplin for Black Friday, the first being Janis - the Classic LP Collecition, a set of four timeless albums from the artist, including Big Brother & The Holding Company, Cheap Thrills, I Got Dem Ol Kozmic Blues and the untouchable Pearl, featuring the same artwork as the original releases, all on vinyl.

Fans of Janis can also revel in a four 7" single box set, Move Over!, boasting six previously unreleased sides and two rarities: "Magic of Love"/"Call On Me;" "Piece Of My Heart"/"Summertime;" "Raise Your Hand/Bo Diddley;" and "Move Over"/"My Baby." Move Over! will also include a temporary tattoo replica of Janis' tattoo.

Also from Sony Legacy is a Black Friday offering from the one and only Bob Dylan in the form of Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window? – a box set of four 7" singles, limited, numbered, and including a Dylan sticker. Tracks are "Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window"/"Highway 61;" "Postively 4th St."/"From A Buick Six;" "Like a Rolling Stone"/"Gates of Eden," and "Subterranean Homesick Blues"/"She Belongs To Me."

Additionally, Sony Legacy releases Kings of Leon - The Early Vinyl which lands on Black Friday as a four LP vinyl box comprised of Kings of Leon’s early albums, Youth & Young Manhood, Aha Shake Heartbreak and Because of The Times. A fourth LP includes unreleased studio and live tracks picked by the band themselves, along with a 20-page booklet.

Domino/Double 6 gives us a CD EP release of John Cale’s Extra Playful along 2 exclusive bonus tracks. The man himself proclaims, "It’s a great pleasure to know the indie market is alive and well - still kicking sand in the face of those corporate behemoths. Granted, it was sad to see the closure of landmark buildings such as Tower Records on the famed Sunset Strip or the magnanimous structure house of Virgin Megastore- seemed for a while there they were more interested in real estate than the music we wanted to buy - they were of little comfort or interest to those of us on the outer fringe who like to stumble upon remarkable mind-bending, gut punching blips of recorded art! Without the true believers of real music - our neighborhood indie music shops - so many would have simply missed out on some of the most ground-breaking music yesterday and now. Characteristic of most indie stores is they have limited stock of their hand-picked favorites which drives the buyer to other stores that would invariably have their own focus and style - now go forth and multiply!"

Reggae/ska iconoclast, Jimmy Cliff adds to the sentiment, "My very first record came out through an ice cream store/record store, Beverly's, so it's a thrill that years later I can help celebrate Black Friday and Record Store Day through record stores with the release of my new Sacred Fire EP. " Cliff’s latest offering, to be released on Black Friday through Collective/RED is a 12" vinyl EP, with one track that is totally unique from the CD or digital version. Tracks include a cover of The Clash’s "The Guns of Brixton," "World Upside Down," "Ruby Soho," "Ship Is Sailing," Dylan’s "A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall," and a second version of "The Guns Of Brixton."

The Black Keys will release their new single, "Lonely Boy" as a limited edition 12" exclusively for participating independent music retailers on Black Friday. Both the lead track and the B-side, "Run Right Back," are featured on the band's forthcoming album, El Camino, which hits stores on December 6th.

Warner Bros releases Tom Petty’s Kiss My Amps, a live LP featuring a bonus download and seven live audio tracks from the "Mojo" Tour, while Rhino issues Live Europe 72, a four LP, 180 gram vinyl set released by The Grateful Dead, and Iron & Wine’s Morning Becomes Eclectic as an LP along with a bonus CD featuring live tracks recorded at the band’s KCRW sessions, all exclusively for Black Friday.

Universal Music Group is set to release five amazing titles for Black Friday, as well: Nirvana’s Nevermind - The Singles, featuring four 10" EPs, (total of 15 tracks) which will include, "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Come As You Are," "Lithium," "In Bloom," plus b-sides; Soundgarden, and their Before The Doors Soundcheck EP on vinyl; Pete Townshend’s The Quadrophenia Demos, Vol 1, 10" EP including six breathtaking demo tracks, "The Real Me," "Cut My Hair," "The Punk," "The Dirty Jobs," "Is It In My Head?", and "Anymore"; from the Prestige label, the Miles Davis Quartet’s reissue of original Prestige 10" album on blue vinyl; and Warren Haynes’ Rivers Gonna Rise (Concord)- a live recording of his Q104 show to be released as an EP exclusively for Black Friday.

Expect more exciting titles to be announced in the weeks to come...

Black Friday is organized by Record Store Day, a cooperative project of hundreds of independent record stores in the USA, Canada, the UK, France, Germany and Holland. This year’s Record Store Day saw the largest vinyl sales day in Soundscan history and lifted sales for the entire music industry. Organizers hope that "Back to Black Friday" will follow the "bigger-than-Christmas" success of their annual April event.

Most of the special releases are being issued as vinyl records – hence the "Back to Black Friday" name. The vinyl format has experienced a huge surge in popularity in recent years, spearheaded almost entirely by independent stores.
