A Very Special Video of the Day: Aaliyah "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number"
Today's Video of the Day is a special tribute to Aaliyah on the Anniversary of her death.
Aaliyah Dana Haughton was simply known by her first name across the model, actress and music industry. Born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Detroit Michigan.
Aaliyah was discovered at an early age of 12 and signed to Jive Records. Prior to that signing she performed on the show Star Search and in concert along side legend Gladys Knight. At Jive Records, Aaliyah was introduced to R. Kelly who became her mentor, lead song writer, and producer of her debut album "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number." Aaliyah's debut album sold over 3 million copies in the United States.
For the second album titled "One in a Million," Aaliyah worked with producers Timbaland and Missy Elliot. The second album sold 3 million copies in the United States and 8 million copies worldwide.
Aaliyah also made her first major film debut in the movie Romeo Must Die, where she recorded a song for the soundtrack called "Try Again." This song earned Aaliyah a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female R&B Vocalist.
Aaliyah had filmed for Queen of the Damned after completing Romeo Must Die, also released her third album self titled Aaliyah in 2001. On August 25, 2001, Aaliyah died from an airplane crash after filming the video "Rock the Boat."
Although taken at the age of 22, let's celebrate the life of Aaliyah by the gift of her voice & the music she leaves behind.
