Legacy Song of the Day - Santana "Evil Ways"

Many of the San Francisco bands jammed the night away: those late shows at the Fillmore could last until dawn. Guitarist Carlos Santana’s aggregation, however, worked a new spin on the extended riff decathlon by injecting the dynamics of Latin music, giving their music a more sensuous, rhythmic underpinning. Their psychedelic salsa made a big splash at the Woodstock Festival, which led to their 1969 Columbia album debut that included “Jingo,” the mud-splattered “Soul Sacrifice,” and this, their initial entry into the pop Top 10.

Monday, July 12, 2010
Musician and philanthropist Carlos Santana proposed to acclaimed drummer Cindy Blackman onstage during his Friday, July 9 concert at the Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, IL. Carlos popped the question four songs into the show-the Chicago area stop on Santana's Universal Tone Tour 2010-following Cindy's virtuoso drum solo on the Santana hit "Corazon Espinado." After she accepted, the just-engaged couple kissed, and the audience broke out into cheers.

Legacy Song of the Day - Santana "Black Magic Woman"

Wednesday, May 19, 2010
Santana brought Latin music to a wide audience in the U.S. by combing Hispanic dance rhythms with blues-rock, often employing a jam format to weave the two together to the point where they were truly one. Later on, more and more jazz influenced entered the mix. Founded in San Francisco in 1967 by guitarist extraordinaire Carlos Santana, the band reached out 6000 miles to cover another great guitarist’s song, Peter Green’s “Black Magic Woman.” World Beat before the term was even invented!
