Remembering Miles Davis
May 26: Along with Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis is the world's most recognizable icon of jazz. Miles, who was born 85 years ago today, began his Columbia Records career when he was about thirty, and remained as the label's top jazz artist for another thirty years. Today's portrait of Miles dates from 1967 and era of his second great quintet, which featured Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter: the photo was used as the cover image for the classic 1968 release "Nefertiti."
