Legacy Song of the Day - Johnny Cash "Ring Of Fire"

Monday, June 14, 2010
Arkansas’ Johnny Cash was already a star when he left Sam Phillips’ Memphis-based Sun Records in 1958 to join Columbia. With his bone-chilling baritone and primal rhythms already signature stamps, Cash quickly took advantage of his new major label status by expanding his artistic horizons, recording entire albums of songs about cowboys, trains, religion, labor, even Native Americans. In the process, he helped establish the liaison between the burgeoning 1960s folk movement and traditional country music. Co-authored by future wife June Carter, ‘63’s “Ring Of Fire,” with its arresting, trumpet-filled arrangement, remains a typically singular classic by the original “Man In Black.”
