Legacy Song of the Day - Dixie Chicks "Wide Open Spaces"
Wednesday, June 16, 2010
Lest there be any doubt that country music enters the new millennium in capable young hands, we end with one of the freshest acts around-the Dixie Chicks. Their “overnight” success story has the usual ten-years-in-the-making plot: Sisters Emily Erwin and Martie Seidel began performing in Dallas in 1989, and had worked through a number of lineups when Natalie Maines (daughter of noted steel guitarist Lloyd Maines) joined them in 1995. With a sound centered around tradition-fiddle, banjo and guitar-and a look as today as their celebrated tattoos, the trio are solid proof that country music will always be about honoring the past while seeking the “Wide Open Spaces” of tomorrow.
