Tuesday, January 25, 2011

The original Big Audio Dynamite is back! Legacy Song of the Day - The Clash "London Calling"

Friday, July 30, 2010
“The Only Band That Matters?” They may or may not have been, but The Clash and the rest of their punk peers mattered tremendously. They arrived at a time when they were sorely needed; the music scene, the radio and the record companies had become way too safe, sanitized, and complacent. It was The Clash who took the raw anger and frustration of youth, harnessed it within a political viewpoint and agenda, and injected it into a world that wanted nothing to do with it. What’s more, they managed to brilliantly and repeatedly do it in single form.

The Clash Albums Celebrating Their 30th Anniversary

Wednesday, April 21, 2010
from Yahoo Music's List of the Day

So, I begin putting together this list of albums from 1980. Except the list then sprawls out of control. I thought 1985 was tough? 1980 ended up with over 140 possible candidates, forcing me to break this blog into two parts. It could've been three, but I don't wish to wear out my welcome. I see you opening the front door and gesturing. I'll just grab your mail and be on my way. Hopefully, you have an aunt that sends you cash.

London Calling Album Artwork to be Featured on Postage Stamps in U.K.

Thursday, October 22, 2009
Beginning January 7, 2010, U.K. Royal Mail will be issuing a new series of stamps featuring classic album covers from various British artists. With help from several editors of U.K. music publications, the postal company recently narrowed down a list of ten album covers that will appear on stamps in circulation next year. The cover of The Clash’s “London Calling” made this cut, so if you’re a U.K. resident or in correspondence with somebody who is, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for this little piece of rock history!
