Legacy Song of the Day - Frank Sinatra "One For My Baby"

Wednesday, July 28, 2010
Every so often a good song gets lost in the shuffle but is rediscovered by some happy chance. “One For My Baby” was originally written for and performed by Fred Astaire in the wartime film, The Sky’s the Limit. Astaire’s recording, not released until the LP era, didn’t make a dent, though, and even this wonderful Sinatra rendition didn’t appear until 1949-nearly two years after it was cut. Moreover, it didn’t become a standard until Sinatra recorded it anew in the late 50s, when its image of the self-pitying loner-rebel mirrored the “Beat” era.
