Released as part of Columbia Legacy s 2006 series The Great American Songbook -- which spotlighted the label's classic artists singing classic pop songs of the 20th century -- this collection contains 14 highlights from Frank Sinatra s classic recordings for Columbia in the '40s. These weren't necessarily Sinatra s biggest hits, but they are among the most recognizable songs in pop -- "Night and Day," "I've Got a Crush on You," "Embraceable You," "Autumn in New York," and "Begin the Beguine" among them -- and assembled together like this, they do make for a good listen, making this a good sampler for those who want a taste of Sinatra at his best but don't want to dig too deep. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
